SST and cholesterol

Total cholesterol testing is less costly and easier to perform in a near-patient setting and the American Heart Association and many other organisations recommend the measurement of total cholesterol to provide valuable information for the management of cholesterol levels.

SSt combines the provision of test results with patient advice and assistance, allowing the creation of value added healthcare services for lifetime screening and occasional monitoring. Test results are automatically stored in an SSt electronic patient record and can be transferred into a user's lifetime electronic health record where appropriate, for review by medical professionals.

SSt and statin therapy

Motivating patients to take their medication is both a top therapeutic priority and a marketing concern for pharmaceutical companies, with an annual course of therapy worth as much as $1000 per patient. With statin use growing strongly and with many organisations calling for more widespread use of statins, motivating and assisting patients are becoming increasingly necessary. Monitoring cholesterol levels in patients can play a major role in improving compliance.

The laboratory sector does not have the capacity to deliver cholesterol tests on a mass scale. Quantitative tests are preferred for monitoring of statin therapy and current home tests, which are qualitative or semi-quantitative and require user-interpretation, are not recommended (American Heart Association).

SSt will offer quantitative home tests for periodic monitoring of cholesterol levels for the support of patients on cholesterol lowering therapy, for delivery through a variety of patient care models.
